What was the Great Depression?
The Great Depression was a period of time in American history that lasted from 1929-1939. It is known as the longest depression of the Western world. It started when the stock market of October 1929, went into a panic and wiped out a lot of investors. After a couple of years, people stopped spending and investing into companies and businesses. This stopped industrial output and many people became unemployed. The Great Depression reached it's peak in 1933 where 13-15 million people were unemployed. The economy didn't' start to heal until 1939, the beginning of WWII.
